Foi um fotógrafo francês, autodidata. Viajou pelo mundo, viveu nos Estados Unidos e tirou as primeiras fotos no Havai em finais da década de 1960. É considerado um retratista da noite, dos camarins e bastidores, underground, fotógrafo de moda, fez também alguns trabalhos em vídeo e realizou em Portugal uma curta-metragem.
