Jornalista, começou a trabalhar no jornal "O Comércio de Angola" em 1954 e foi também correspondente do "Diário Popular" em Luanda, onde viveu 15 anos. No regresso a Lisboa trabalhou no Diário Popular, no Diário de Notícias, em revistas e semanários. Dedicou-se também à poesia, sob o pseudónimo de Álvaro Reis.
