Natural do Funchal, fez licenciatura em Direito na Faculdade de Direito de Lisboa e especializou-se profissionalmente nas áreas da museologia e de gestão do património. Colaborou com diversos jornais e publicações da imprensa regional e com a RTP Madeira. Foi diretor de serviços do Património Cultural (Secretaria Regional do Turismo e Cultura - Direção Regional dos Assuntos Culturais) entre 1997 e 2000 e diretor do Museu de Arte Contemporânea do Funchal desde 2001 até à data da sua aposentação.
